Gilson Daub, Inc.’s foundation is built on providing not only exceptional service to our clients, but also cultivating a firm where the employees do not pass up on the opportunity to assist those who are less fortunate. This year, my Gilson Daub, Inc. family donated over $1,100.00 towards $3,200.00 that was raised to sponsor my mission trip to Vietnam in January 2017. My friend and I partnered up with a non-profit, Friends of the Underprivileged that assisted with coordinating each of our visits to the facilities, as well as providing us with information on supplies to buy so that we could donate items that would be provide the most benefit. Every penny that was raised went towards buying items such as rice, milk, clothing, sugar, soap, school supplies, and other basic necessities for three orphanages and a children’s hospital in Ho Chi Minh City, Hue and Da Nang.
The trip and my time in Vietnam was one of the most memorable and rewarding things that I have done in my life. I learned so much about my culture and was able to not only help deliver supplies to each of the orphanages, but spend time assisting with the needs of each facility, which housed between 150-200 children ranging from newborns to 18 years old. All the facilities that I visited are financed purely on donations without any government assistance. What inspired me the most about some of these facilities was that each child was not only provided with an education, but also taught skills according to their strengths so that they would be able to support themselves once they left the facilities. It was encouraging to see that these children who were abandoned and not wanted, were being well taken care of and given a chance for a better life. It was clear that the mission of these facilities was to empower the lives of these children and provide them the support and education so they can later help themselves.
It was an honor to be able to take this trip of a lifetime with the support of everyone at Gilson Daub, Inc to help bring a smile to a child’s face halfway around the world!
